What is a horizontal screw conveyor?

A screw conveyor is a mechanism that utilizes a rotating helical screw (or a spiral blade wrapped around a shaft) typically located inside a stationary tube or channel. The rotation of the spiral blades causes the material to move longitudinally, following the path of the conveyor.

They consist of a driving device, which is usually an electric motor, located either at the loading end or at the product discharge end. There is also a discharge point, the rotating screw shaft, the inlet port, and the housing that covers the system. The transfer rate achieved is proportional to the rotation of the shaft and the diameter of the spiral base.

Horizontal conveyors are the most commonly used conveying devices in various industries that handle bulk materials needing to be transferred from one part of the process to another. As the density of the transported product increases or if it is more abrasive, the load becomes heavier, requiring a decrease in the percentage of conveyor utilization. In general, when requesting a screw conveyor, you should consider:

The type, condition, particle size, and apparent density of the material.
The feeding rate of the bulk material to be transported.
The distance to be covered.
The material of construction.
The operating temperature.
The feeding conditions.
