What is an industrial mixing tank?
A mixing tank is a generally cylindrical and stainless steel container, vertical or horizontal, and equipped with a stirring device. The objective is to obtain a homogeneous mixture, a necessary step in the development of many industrial products. Stainless steel is suitable for organic materials, and exhibits good resistance to acidity and corrosion that are found in many industrial processes.
To maintain a given temperature required by certain processes, many tanks have a double-walled housing for internal temperature control, with the advantage of being able to form an insulating layer. This is called a jacketed mixing tank. In other cases, thermal regulation is provided by a coil in contact with the mixed products, in which a heat transfer fluid circulates.
The agitator can be propeller, ribbon paddles or anchor (scraper). It is usually mounted on the top of the tank, but bottom agitators are preferred for high viscosity products. The agitator is located near the heater in some models, for better heat distribution. The agitated tanks can be of large dimensions, the largest models are positioned on cradles. Some tanks include a metering device.
